Abu Dhabi offers a unique holiday destination that is subtly and excitingly differentiated from its near neighbour, the emirate of Dubai.
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and has a population approaching one million. Abu Dhabi is said to have got it's name from the wild antelope and gazelle found in the area by bedouin tribesmen.
Abu Dhabi is an emirate of the United Arab Emirates. The seven emirates tha make up the federation of the United Arab Emirates are: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah.
Most of Abu Dhabi is located on the t-shaped island, which juts out from the mainland into the Persian Gulf, and is situated on the north-eastern part of the Persian Gulf in the Arabian Peninsula. Some suburbs of Abu Dhabi are located on the mainland.
Abu Dhabi is served by the Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) which is the second busiest airport in the UAE, after Dubai International Airport.
